Lawyers Are Allowed to Lie

So, you know, Roman Polanski is in prison.

Polanski’s lawyers are asking that the Swiss court release him on bail [link]. Here’s the quote that made me choke and splutter while trying innocently to drink some cool water:

“One of the lawyers, Herve Temime, added that Polanski did not pose a flight risk.”

Seriously? Are you out of your mind? This is the guy who already flew and hasn’t flown back for over 30 years. How can anyone say with a straight face that he’s not a flight risk? Geez.

ANYWAY.

He shouldn’t be let go. He was convicted of a crime, then fled justice, and has remained a fugitive. I read the court transcripts, and I don’t think that Polanski contests the girl’s story (but I don’t know). She said no, he didn’t care. She was 13.

WHOOPS! He does contest her story, saying that she didn’t say no. Still, I’m a bit younger than he was at the time, and if a 13 year-old ASKED me for sex, I’d run. As an adult, I just don’t want to mess up a kid the way that sex could.

People say that he drugged her, which is technically true, but implies something that didn’t happen. He offered her drugs and she accepted. That’s different from slipping something in her drink.

He also wasn’t convicted of rape. He pled guilty to unlawful sexual intercourse. I don’t even know what that means, or whether it’s a felony or what.

Anyway, he offered a 13 year-old drugs and champagne, and he did it in order to have sex with her, whether she really wanted to or not. Then he took off. So he’s a bad guy. Send him away.
