{"id":352,"date":"2008-05-21T13:40:13","date_gmt":"2008-05-21T18:40:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/weeklyrob.com\/?p=352"},"modified":"2008-05-21T13:40:13","modified_gmt":"2008-05-21T18:40:13","slug":"expenses","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/weeklyrob.com\/?p=352","title":{"rendered":"Expenses"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>While contemplating a move to San Francisco a few months ago, I checked out a few &#8220;cost of living&#8221; calculators to see how much of a hit my lifestyle would take.<\/p>\n<p>The short answer: A ton.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bestplaces.net\/col\/\">Calculator #1<\/a> says that I&#8217;d need to earn 83% more to keep me in the opulence that I now enjoy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bankrate.com\/brm\/movecalc.asp\">Calculator #2<\/a> says it&#8217;s only 75.94%.<\/p>\n<p>Good Lord.<\/p>\n<p>But what about other countries?<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lankanewspapers.com\/news\/2007\/3\/12963_space.html\">This report<\/a> gives an index of expensiveness.<\/p>\n<p>So, New York is 100. Atlanta is 71. San Fran is 92. And Oslo is the winner at 132. I&#8217;m not sure how the indexing goes, but it sounds as though Oslo is dramatically more expensive than San Fran.<\/p>\n<p>Like, it&#8217;s more expensive, in comparison to San Fran, than San Fran is in comparison to Atlanta. That&#8217;s insane.<\/p>\n<p>By the way, for my friends and family elsewhere:<\/p>\n<p>Washington DC: 89<\/p>\n<p>Seattle: 82<\/p>\n<p>Denver: Not on the list, but that first calculator says it&#8217;s 9.7% more expensive than Atlanta<\/p>\n<p>Melbourne, Australia: 103<\/p>\n<p>London: 125<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>While contemplating a move to San Francisco a few months ago, I checked out a few &#8220;cost of living&#8221; calculators to see how much of a hit my lifestyle would take.
