They brought back lots of ducks and geese, and governor William Bradford called for a celebration.<\/p>\n<p>From <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Mayflower-Story-Courage-Community-War\/dp\/0143111973\/\">Mayflower<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;&#8230;the first Thanksgiving soon became an overwhelmingly Native celebration when Massasoit and a hundred Pokanokets &#8230; arrived at the settlement with five freshly killed deer.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>There were also wild turkeys. And beer. But no pumpkin pies or cranberry sauce.<\/p>\n<p>From William Bradford&#8217;s eyewitness account, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.fordham.edu\/halsall\/mod\/1650bradford.html\">Of Plymouth Plantation<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;They began now to gather in the small harvest they had&#8230; and had all things in good plenty.
