Like, we see a polar bear family poking its head out of the den for the first time in spring.

But every trailer that I’ve seen for the movie, including the polar bear stuff, is footage from the BBC Series Planet Earth, which I own on DVD.

And the Planet Earth series is AMAZING. You can get it in high def, which must be spectacular. I’ve got the regular version, and it’s already spectacular. Gorgeous and fascinating stuff. I can’t recommend it highly enough. I sit there, mouth open, wishing I had all my friends around me so that we can gape together.

There’s footage of otters successfully fighting off a crocodile. If that’s not enough to interest you, then you’re beyond hope.

I have the version narrated by David Attenborough. He’s fantastic, as always, and I would go well out of my way to get that version. Apparently the US version is narrated by Sigourney Weaver. I have nothing against her, but Attenborough has been involved in animal videos forever and I can’t see choosing a random actress over him at any price.

Anyway, the makers of my DVDs have used the same footage to make this family Disney movie, Earth. I hear a rumor that there’s some stuff in the movie that’s not in the DVDs, but I don’t know for sure. It’s narrated, by James Earl Jones, with a completely different script: It follows three animal families around in a sort of narrative, rather than showing you one incredible scene after another of a huge assortment of animals.

If the movie interests you, and you’re a grown-up, then go get the DVDs. Or see the movie AND go get the DVDs. You can blame me if you don’t like them.

So there’s this movie out called, Earth.
