Have you ever emigrated?<\/p>\n

Here are some of the things I’ve had to do or collect for the Australian government that have kept me from writing this blog:<\/p>\n

    \n
  1. Local background check from the Atlanta cops.<\/li>\n
  2. Fingerprints and national check from the FBI.<\/li>\n
  3. Physical check and chest X-ray from a doctor specified on Australia’s list of docs.<\/li>\n
  4. Copy of my passport with a signature on the back asserting that it’s really me. The signature has to be from someone in a profession acceptable to the Australian government. This includes a pharmacist, so that’s who did it.<\/li>\n
  5. A list of every single job I’ve held since college.<\/li>\n
  6. A list of every visit I’ve taken to Australia, including visa numbers and dates. (This list had to be filled out on two separate forms.)<\/li>\n
  7. A list of every country I’ve visited in the last ten years.<\/li>\n
  8. A list of every place I’ve lived in the last ten years.<\/li>\n
  9. Evidence that I won’t need Australian welfare.<\/li>\n
  10. Evidence that my relationship with my wife is real and lasting. I’m supposed to provide evidence in several categories, including “social,” “financial,” and others.<\/li>\n
  11. A statement of my relationship, describing how we met, how we “support each other,” and what our future appears to be.<\/li>\n
  12. A certified copy of my birth certificate.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Of course, this is aside from thinking about movers and real estate agents and passports for the kids, etc.<\/p>\n

    I’m hoping that readers will be forgiving and pretend that this is an actual post, rather than just a list of crap.<\/p>\n
