No-Sex Pregnancy

This is amazing, and I’m just going to assume it’s true because it’s on the Discover blog.

The short story:

* A 15 year-old girl performs oral sex on her boyfriend.

* She and her boyfriend almost immediately get into a knife fight (yes) against her previous boyfriend. She suffers a serious stab wound to the stomach, gets stitched up, stays in the hospital for ten days, then goes home.

* 9.X months later, she comes in with abdominal pain, and the doctors find that she’s in labor.

Oh, did I mention that she has no vagina?

She has no vagina. So they do a C-section and get out a bouncing baby boy.

Yes, ladies and gentlemen, the stab wound allowed the semen to escape her stomach and enter the uterus. I leave you in your amazement.

“some cattle changed hands to prove that there were no hard feelings.” Hmm…where was this? A 15yo girl, conceiving on her first menstrual cycle, partly because she was so starved that her stomach had no acid. I’ll put away my cynical skepticism for a moment and say that I’m glad it all turned out OK.

It was Mafeteng Districts Hospital, Lesotho.

I don’t think it’s clear that she was starving, but they noted that her stomach was empty when they stitched her up, and they’ve apparently shown that starving people don’t produce acid. So they’re putting two and two together.

They’re also totally guessing about it being her first period.

Here’s a link to help you find more on it, if you’re at all interested:

I’m almost afraid to ask, but if she’d had periods before, with no means of expulsion, wouldn’t that have constituted a grave health risk on its own? I can’t get the site to work. Did they say anything about going beyond the cesarean delivery, with a hysterectomy, a prosthetic vagina, or some other solution?

I don’t have access to the actual paper. I don’t know what happens to women without a vagina, but I’m sure you can look it up!

    Maybe the material gets reabsorbed.
