Common Side Effects

I happened to be on the FDA Web site today and saw a press release from 2006, stating that they approved a particular sunscreen.

At the bottom of the press release, they list the most common side effects of using the sunscreen. Note the last one in the list:

“… acne, dermatitis, dry skin, eczema, abnormal redness, itching, skin discomfort and sunburn.”

Sunburn was a common side effect of using this sunscreen.

I’m sure this is true for all sunscreens, but it still made me laugh.

Reminds me of an ad in Robocop for sunscreen called something like “Sunblock 2000.” One of the side effects was skin cancer!

This reminds me of the side-effect a lot of sleep aids report: drowsiness. Some now say “next day drowsiness”, but for a while they just said “drowsiness”. OTOH, I guess this would be more like a sleep aid causing sleeplessness. More in line, then, is that many chemotherapy drugs increase one’s risk of certain cancers.
