Yes, everyoneâ€™s already said it, but Iâ€™m gonna say it, too. I donâ€™t think that letting Dubai run the ports poses a threat to security. And I doubt that any professional politician does either. This is the Democrats realizing that they can throw egg on Bushâ€™s face with very little pain, and the Republicans afraid of being left to the left. Iâ€™m not sure whoâ€™s behaving worse, and maybe this time itâ€™s a toss-up.
As for the frothing public, the irony is lovely. The country is now in the state of paranoia that Bush dreamt about when selling the Iraq invasion and warrant-less wiretapping. But he canâ€™t turn it off, and he canâ€™t control it.
Iâ€™m glad that Dubai pulled out, because of the waste of time that vetoing and overriding a veto would be. But man, wouldnâ€™t that have been fun?
