NPR has an interview with a “roving field scientist†who takes amazing pictures of ants.
The one above never uses those jaws for food. Those bad boys are reserved for attacking threats to the community, like humans. In other words, they’re for inflicting pain, not for putting dinner on the table.

NPR: Some work all their lives to be successful academics — and I wonder why that isn’t what you do?
MM: Maybe I just don’t like all the meetings.
