Lilly Goren, contributing to the under-appreciated, but ever-interesting Britannica Blog, helps us figure out whether America is more likely to elect a woman or a black man as president.
How does she do it? She collects and assesses historical data from the only really important sources that ever existed: Movies and Television Series.
Her findings tell us that Obama has a better chance than Hillary. (Link)
[Incidentally, I’m against the word “series” because it’s awkard to pluralize.]
Well, since the 15th amendment came before the 19th amendment, she’s probably right.
So, you believe that when they got the vote correlates to when they become truly electable.
That’s another bit of data to look at, but I don’t think it’s nearly as awesome as the TV-Hollywood thing.
Does the President even need to be eligible for the vote? ISTR Lyndon B. LaRouche running from inside a prison cell.
AIUI, the President of Ireland can’t vote there. I can’t seem to find confirmation of this online, and have to trust my memory from a visit to her house. Of course their laws don’t affect us, but it’s interesting none the less.
Well, they correlate, but it’s not causal. I believe we gave the right to vote in the order in which we quit infantalizing them. Ask an old, male redneck from my grandparents generation if he’d rather work for a black man or a white woman and I think I know the answer he’d give.
