Earth and Planet Earth

So there’s this movie out called, Earth. And I keep hearing how amazing the footage is, and how we see things never seen before. Like, we see a polar bear family poking its head out of the den for the first time in spring. But every trailer that I’ve seen for the movie, including the […]

Big Travels on NPR

NPR did a little story today about how some luxury items (massages, for example) are doing much better than expected in the economy. They figure that people are giving up the big ticket items (like travel) and instead settling for small, but luxurious, things. One woman is getting a spa treatment this year, instead of […]

Shoot Him

One of the many funny lines in Pulp Fiction was when Vincent said something like: “Jules, if you give this nimrod fifteen hundred bucks, I’m gonna shoot him on general principle.” So, here I am watching an episode of the hugely entertaining Rockford Files (on hulu.com). And Jim Rockford gets mad and says something like: […]

Rockin'

Last night I finally watched Air Guitar Nation, the documentary about the World Air Guitar championships. It was gooood. So funny, but also touching. Graph Jams

Wired magazine points us to graphjam.com, the best possible use of googledocs. Update: I submitted a graph, but apparently they’re very backed up. So rather than wait for mine to show up there, I’ll link to it RIGHT HERE.

Movies Are for Kids

This is a short rant. Only kids haven’t seen the same old tricks a thousand times. So when new movies use the same old tricks, I’m giving the movie-makers the benefit of the doubt and assuming that they’re making the movies for kids. This must be true even when the movies are rated R, or […]

Beatles and Bad Grammar

I recently saw Across the Universe. As most people know, the movie updates a bunch of Beatles songs, and uses them to tell a story. It’s pretty good, and part of the fun is seeing how the movie-makers adapt the lyrics to their purpose. The one I bring you today is especially interesting to me, […]

Gone, Gone.

Polaroid pics will soon be a thing of the past. My wife and I love our polaroid camera, which spits out mini pictures much smaller than the ones I remember as a kid. But I guess we’d better buy up as much film as we can before it’s all gone forever. In the meantime, if […]
